The Short Version
Earn a scientist's trust in the system — and you give the science its time back.
My degree was in biotechnology — assays and wet-lab benches, not a line of code in sight. The computation snuck in later, and mostly sideways.
Protein engineering is where I picked up the math: Fourier transforms, meshes, and fields drawn around molecular surfaces. My first real language was ICM — a gloriously niche way to describe atomic angles. Deeply academic, and nowhere near software.
The formal engineering came on the job — orchestration, task managers, the unglamorous machinery that keeps time-driven pipelines running in sync.
What's kept me here is a conviction: science leaves too much manual out of habit or mistrust. Prove to a scientist that a system can be trusted with the tedious part, and you hand back the hours that matter — the science itself.
